Chapter 71 Testing the Waters
Li Qianqian looked at Lin Huai nervously. She did not want Lin Huai to plunge himself into the darkness, but she could see the light in Lin Huai, a light that would not be swallowed by any darkness. The first time she met Lin Huai, she had a feeling that he was a bad person, and she would never associate any feelings with him.
However, she could see righteousness in him now and it scared her. She was afraid that she would lose this man but at the same time, the justice in him made her feel touched.
Lin Huai said seriously, “The sports major had set a trap for me today. If I don’t go, I will miss the chance to fight them. If I go, I will look for an opportunity to destroy them down to their roots!”
Li Qianqian bit her lips and lifted her head to look at Lin Huai, before saying in a trembling voice ,“Lin Huai, I have something to tell you.”
“Oh,” Lin Huai asked, “What is it?”
Li Qianqian hesitated for a moment and it was evident that she was struggling to voice her words. Lin Huai embraced Li Qianqian gently and said softly, “Qianqian. I know you are not ready to say it yet. I am not in a hurry. You can say it whenever you want. I will only be facing a few of the sports major students. You don’t need to worry, nothing will happen to me.”
“Okay.” Li Qianqian nodded her head and exhaled. She knew very well that nothing would happen to him if he was facing just a few students. However, if things turned more serious, and with how the current situation was turning out, she feared that he would land himself in hot soup. She hesitated and decided to find another time to talk it over.
The two of them started talking about other matters and they changed to topics that were more positive. It was almost evening when Lin Huai was getting ready to leave. He did not drive Li Qianqian’s car to avoid unwanted attention. Instead, he used a cab and arrived right in front of the school gate. Actually, Dao Zi and his men had been hiding nearby; Lin Huai had arranged everything beforehand.
Lin Huai stood outside the school gate and lit a cigarette. He puffed on the cigarette and, occasionally, students who did not go back for the holidays greeted him as they walked past by. Lin Huai was now a gang leader; even though there were thousands of students in the school and not every one of them knew who he was, at least half of them knew what he looked like.
A while later, six students came from the opposite of the road. A bald guy seemingly in his twenties with a round face led the way. He had a wide smile on his face and was obviously a wolf disguised as a sheep. On the other hand, the people who followed behind him had fierce and mean looks on their faces. With a single look, Lin Huai recognized the bald-headed, round-faced man as ‘Yin Hu’ Chen Gang.
As expected, a few of them walked up to Lin Huai and the bald-headed man reached out his arm as he said smilingly, “Brother Huai, I am Chen Gang. I’m here today just to apologise to you as I have wronged you in the past.”
Returning his courtesy, Lin Huai shook his hand and, with a smile on his face, replied, “I am the one who had wronged you. I’ve beaten up a follower of yours by the name of Chen Shengming last night.”
“Oh, I’ve heard about it.” Chen Gang was not fazed as he chuckled. “He went to the stadium and caused trouble, so he deserved the beating. If I knew that he disturbed your training, I would beat him up even if you didn’t.”
Lin Huai smiled subtly as he said, “Since you have said it, then I won’t blame myself anymore.”
“Why blame yourself? This is all because I wasn’t strict enough with them.” Chen Gang looked like a person that was easy to talk things out with, and there was always a smile on his face. However, Lin Huai was still wary of him, especially since he had heard about the incident of how one of Chen Gang’s girls went missing after she poisoned the Fourth Boss of Yulan’s Four Tigers,—who embezzled Zhou Minghu’s money— to death. At that time, Chen Gang was not one of the Yulan’s Four Tigers yet. Lin Huai would not believe a single word if he was told that it was not Chen Gang’s doing.
Lin Huai took a glance at all of them and pretended to look curious. He lowered his voice and said softly, “I’ve heard from Brother Di that you have some virgins with you…”
“Yes, of course I have.” Chen Gang’s eyes lit up as he chuckled. “Brother Huai, this is a gift that I have prepared for you. I’ve picked them out carefully from our school.”
Lin Huai asked, “They weren’t forced to be prostitutes right?”
“No, of course not. My followers may be foolish at times and would do that occasionally, but I am always very strict with them.”
Lin Huai was laughing in his heart. Why would I believe you? I can already see that you are not a saint from that fat body of yours.
Nevertheless, Lin Huai still praised him. “It’s a pity that there are only a few in our society who are just as disciplined as you, Brother Gang.”
“Ha! I think you understand me very well, brother. It seems that you and I could have been old friends. Why don’t we go and have some drinks first and then I’ll bring you to someplace fun. What do you think?”
“Sounds good.” Lin Huai did not reject his invitation; if he looked overly eager, he would come across as being fake.
The group of people went to a restaurant opposite the school and entered a private room. Chen Gang ordered some dishes and beer, then all of them began eating and drinking to their heart’s contents.
After the third round of beer drinking, Chen Gang asked, “Brother Huai, you’ve only been in this school for half a month, right?”
Lin Huai calculated for a moment and answered, “Yeah, almost half a month.”
“To tell you the truth, uniting a major in half a month’s time is something that I’ve never heard of, and I’ve been in Yulan College for such a long time. I’m in my senior year now.”
Lin Huai laughed. “Forget about it. Compared to Mr. Hu, I am way more inferior than him.”
Chen Gang looked around as he said with a soft voice, “To be honest, Mr. Hu will be graduating in a year’s time. After he has graduated, will you be interested in taking over his position and become the actual Big Boss of Yulan College?”
Lin Huai chuckled. “Miss Gao and Wu Shanhe are still in Yulan College, aren’t they?”
“Haha! How could those two compare to you? Miss Gao’s followers are all girls and what great things could girls accomplish? As for Wu Shanhe, he is just all brawn but no brains. If you are really interested, our Big Boss is willing to help you fight against those two people. If the two of us join hands, we can kick Gao Mengchao and Wu Shanhe out of Yulan College within the next month or so. Then, by the time Mr. Hu graduates, you will become the Big Boss of this school. Aren’t you interested?”
Lin Huai was dumbfounded; he thought that Zhou Minghu was planning to get rid of him, but he never expected him to offer to join forces and scheme against the other two forces. Of course, Lin Huai would not simply believe his words. Zhang Hongdi might already have anticipated that Gao Mengchao was in contact with him; that was why even if he agreed to it, Zhou Minghu would still not necessarily believe him. Perhaps this was just to drug him at the dinner table so that it would be easier to set up a trap.
Lin Huai purposely acted like he was considering the plan as he looked to Chen Gang’s hopeful eyes before shaking his head. “I have to go back and give it more thought.”
As expected, Chen Gang did not look disappointed at all. He just laughed and said, “I understand, I understand. Then let’s drink some beer first and stop talking business.”
Lin Huai answered, “This will be my last round. I still have to accompany some ladies later on.”
Chen Gang glared at him and said, “Accompanying those ladies won’t be that big of a matter. It won’t be late even if we drink some more. Brother Huai, we are like old friends and from now on, we are brothers. We have to drink to our hearts’ content!”
All the other people chimed in, “Yeah, Brother Huai. Mr. Gang doesn’t just simply accept other people as his brother. He has a high standard when it comes to making friends. You can’t make him look bad like this.”
“Yea, Brother Huai. Come and drink two more rounds. We’ll all drink with you.”
Lin Huai was laughing on the inside. He knew something was up; it was obvious that these people were trying to make him drunk, but unfortunately they could not possibly compete with him, for their alcohol tolerance was insignificant compared to his.
Lin Huai pretended as if he was put on the spot and said, “I don’t usually drink this much but fine… Since today is such a joyous occasion, I will drink a few more rounds.”
Chen Gang then laughed heartily. “Now that’s being a good brother. Come, fill up Brother Huai’s cup now!”
When Lin Huai felt that he had drunk enough, he pretended to be drunk. He shook his head as he stood up and said, “I really cannot drink anymore. If I continue drinking, I won’t be able to meet the ladies. Brother Gang, I’m more interested in the girls you mentioned just now.”
Chen Gang was feeling complacent inside. He had heard a few days ago that Lin Huai had hooked up with Wei Qimian just when he had joined the school, and now Lin Huai was hooking up with Liu Meiqi. Furthermore, he also heard that Lin Huai’s relationship with Miss Pu Yingxue in private was ambiguous. Manipulating men like him with women was just too easy, which was why Zhang Hongdi used such a tactic to tackle Lin Huai.
Chen Gang smiled as he said, “Alright, alright. I have so many girls under me. As long as you enjoy yourself, I’ll give you one each week. Come, let’s go there by car.”
“Oh, we’re going by car?”
“Yeah, a van. Hehe! We just bought it using our earnings.”
After Lin Huai went outside with them, he took a glimpse at it and noticed that it wasn’t a new van, but merely a second-hand which probably only cost them a few thousand. Nonetheless, this was already enough for these students.
Chen Gang’s men opened the car door and after Lin Huai hopped in, the others followed suit. Although Lin Huai appeared to be drunk, he was actually still very alert; he wanted to see if they would take this opportunity to beat him up while he was drunk.
The van swiftly reached a karaoke place and everyone went down. Chen Gang said proudly, “Brother Huai, I own half of the girls in this karaoke.”
Lin Huai purposely frowned as he said, “I want to pick the girls on the spot. I’m not looking for someone to sing me a song.”
Chen Gang burst out laughing. “What’s the hurry, brother? This place is not only for singing, there are also a lot of traps inside.”
As Chen Gang was talking, he smiled at Lin Huai with a meaningful look in his eyes.
