Chapter 70 Lin Huai’s Resolution!
That night, Lin Huai was tipsy as he went to Li Qianqian’s apartment by car. When he walked in, he saw that the bandage on Li Qianqian’s head had been completely removed. He breathed a sigh of relief and asked, “Do you feel better?”
“Yeah.” Li Qianqian replied. “The doctor said I’ll be fine.”
“That’s good to hear.” After Lin Huai entered, he immediately lay down on the sofa; he had drank a little too much with his brothers today.
“Look at yourself, you’ve had too much to drink.” It was unclear if Li Qianqian said that to reprimand him or to show her care toward him.
Lin Huai laughed. “My brothers were happy. We held a welcoming party for a brother.”
“Brothers?” Li Qianqian looked at Lin Huai with a curious gaze and asked again. “You really think you’re the gang leader of the school? Don’t forget, you’re in school for only two months. There is just a month and a half left.”
“I know, I know.” Lin Huai laughed and was about to hug her when Li Qianqian avoided him agilely.
Li Qianqian pushed Lin Huai back onto the sofa and said, “Just sit down. I’ll go and pour you a bowl of hangover soup.”
“You’ve boiled hangover soup for me? I’m really touched.”
Li Qianqian snorted and said, “When you called me and said that you wanted to come over and stay for the night, I could hear from your voice that you’ve been drinking too much. Don’t move, I’ll go and pour you the soup.”
Lin Huai chuckled as he slapped Li Qianqian buttocks and watched her as she swayed into the kitchen. Based on Lin Huai’s alcohol tolerance, it was impossible that the students made him drink too much. He was just slightly tipsy tonight, not to the point of being completely drunk; it was even more impossible for him to get himself completely drunk especially when he had something to attend to the next day.
Li Qianqian quickly brought the hangover soup over, and just when she was going to put it down, her hands suddenly trembled and the soup splashed onto her hand. Li Qianqian let out a scream; her hands were scalded but she still held on to the bowl of soup and set it down on the table. After that, she gently blew her scalded hand and said, “Wait for it to cool before you drink it. It’s too hot.”
Li Qianqian suddenly realized that a pair of huge hands was grasping her wrist and the next moment, she was falling backward into Lin Huai’s lap. Lin Huai embraced her as his hands held onto hers. He blew onto her hands while blaming himself for it. “It’s my fault, I made you scald your hands.”
“It’s fine,” Li Qianqian was happy on the inside as she smiled and replied. “I am not weak . It is just a mild scald, it didn’t even blister or anything.”
Li Qianqian’s hand was indeed not severely scalded but it had turned red. Lin Huai had been risking his life for many years, and although the scald was not serious, for some reason Lin Huai felt pain in his heart. All these years, he had also met a few girls but most of them were just one-night stands; they did not care if he drank too much and nobody had made him hangover soup before. Since the moment Li Qianqian walked over with the soup in her hands, his heart had warmed. Now that Li Qianqian’s hand was hurt, how could he not hurt at the sight?
Lin Huai let go of Li Qianqian as he stood up and said, “I’ll go and buy some medicine for you.”
“No need, there’s really no need for that. Why would you go and buy medicine?” Li Qianqian hugged Lin Huai from behind and said softly, “Thank you. Nobody has ever cared for me like this. I have medicine at home, so you just sit tight. I’ll just go and grab it, be back shortly.”
After listening to Li Qianqian, Lin Huai just sat down and said, “Go ahead.”
Li Qianqian quickly went upstairs and she came down not long after. When she sat down, Lin Huai saw that she already had the ointment on her finger. Li Qianqian noticed Lin Huai’s gaze and said laughingly, “It is just a mild scald. I won’t even be making a big fuss over it if it wasn’t for you. Are you satisfied now?’
“Yes, yes I am.” Lin Huai continued, “You mentioned a while ago that nobody has ever cared for you like this.”
“Yeah.” Li Qianqian’s voice sounded slightly dejected.
Lin Huai suddenly lifted his head and raised Li Qianqian’s chin so that her eyes would meet his. With a serious look on his face, he said, “From now on, I’ll take care of you.”
“You…” Li Qianqian’s eyes turned red as she rebuked, “You’re sweet-talking me to see me cry.”
Lin Huai suddenly leaned over and pressed Li Qianqian against the sofa. Their lips met and his tongue gently pried her teeth open, then reached in as Li Qianqian’s breathing became more rapid; she was responding to him.
Lin Huai’s breathing also became faster, and just when he was going for his next move, Li Qianqian shoved him away hard. Li Qianqian tucked her hair and her breathing was still quite rapid as she said playfully, “Drink the hangover soup first.”
Lin Huai burst out laughing. “Fine, we’ll continue once I finish drinking it but you cannot cry anymore. If you dare to shed a drop of tear, I won’t sleep with you later.”
“Moron! As if I want to have sex with you!” Li Qianqian gave Lin Huai two soft punches.
Lin Huai drank a mouthful of the soup and with a serious look on his face, he said, “You’re really taking my good deed for granted!”
“…”
After he finished the hangover soup, he felt more clear-headed and carried Li Qianqian bridal style as he burst out laughing, saying, “It’s already late. My lady, come and take a rest with your husband in bed!”
“You little punk, when did you start talking so politely…”
“I can talk more politely.”
“What?”
“Tonight, let’s be of one mind and body.”
A silence fell between them. Li Qianqian leaned into Lin Huai’s embrace bashfully as she remembered Lin Huai’s gaze that was filled with pity and guilt when her hand was scalded. Her emotions rolled in as nobody had ever—from years of working alone outside—cared for her like this.
The both of them lay on the bed and this time, the two of them were so passionate, as if they wanted to release all their pent-up feelings of loneliness, grief, and suffering until there was only the feeling of joy left.
After a crazy night, they had a good night’s sleep. The next morning, Lin Huai tucked Li Qianqian’s hair, and when she opened her eyes, he smiled. “Today is a weekend. I don’t have to take care of Wei Qimian.”
“Oh, so that means you won’t be going out?” Li Qianqian smiled cheerfully; she was a formidable woman in life, but enjoyed the feeling of being able to rely on someone.
Lin Huai cracked a smile. “I won’t be going out in the morning but I need to leave in the afternoon. I’ll probably be back before midnight.”
“Where are you going?” Li Qianqian asked suspiciously. “It must be a bad place since you’re going out until so late.”
Lin Huai chuckled. “You’re thinking too much on this but you’re not wrong. I’m going out to look for prostitutes… Yes, and I heard they are students from Yulan College.”
Li Qianqian instantly got angry and sat up as she said with a cold expression on her face, “You can leave now.”
Lin Huai was still lazing around on the bed and he giggled when he saw her angry look, refusing to budge.
“You…” Looking at Lin Huai’s behavior, Li Qianqian became even more furious. “You’re so shameless!”
“Why? Are you jealous?” Lin Huai asked laughingly.
“Why would I be jealous?” Li Qianqian continued angrily, “I don’t mind that you fall in love with someone outside, nor do I mind that you have something going on with other people. However, if you’re going to find prostitutes, don’t come find me anymore. I don’t want you to infect me with diseases someday. Furthermore, are you that thirsty? Am I not able to satisfy you until you have to go out and look for prostitutes? Are they better looking than me or what? You think they are better than me?”
“So you are jealous!” Lin Huai could see that Li Qianqian was furious and did not dare to tease her anymore. He extended his arms wanting to hug Li Qianqian but she pushed his arm away.
When he saw that Li Qianqian had really flared up, Lin Huai laughed awkwardly. “Let me explain, I’m not actually going to look for prostitutes…”
Li Qianqian was stunned and she was still doubtful as she asked, “There’s still a real and fake side to this matter?”
Lin Huai was not joking anymore and he answered in a serious manner, “I’m going out to handle some important business. Yulan College has been in chaos all these years because of this. Although every student, including the teachers and the coaches are responsible for it, it is the sports major that is the hardest to tackle. If the students in the sports major can be tamed, the chaos in the whole school will reduce by half.”
Li Qianqian knitted her sleek brows and asked, “What are you planning to do?”
“I want to bring the sports major under my lead, including the whole school. I will be the Big Boss of the school and I will control the order of the school. Since the coaches and teachers of the school cannot handle them, then I’ll be the school overlord and I will handle everything!”
“You mustn’t!” Li Qianqian replied emotionally. “It is too dangerous.”
Lin Huai’s eyes lit up and his bright gaze turned to Li Qianqian, “Don’t you remember I’m a bodyguard? A bodyguard from Dragon Shield, surely you don’t think that some mere students could threaten me?”
“B-But… They are not like the average students. I’ve heard rumours about Yulan College.” Li Qianqian obviously had something on her mind as she shook her head and said, “I won’t allow you to do so, that’s it.”
Lin Huai sighed softly and said, “ My music teacher had disciplined a senior student two days ago. The student held a grudge against her because of that and almost raped her in the women’s toilet. The teacher looks gentle on the outside but her attitude is very firm. She nearly knocked herself to death and that was what saved her from being raped. One of my roommates heard about some news and nearly got himself killed. He heard that the sports major students wanted to resell drugs. Drugs! That roommate of mine is still in the hospital and has not been discharged yet.”
“Do you know how poor his family is? They already had to borrow money for his tuition fees, so they couldn’t even afford to pay the hospital fees. He nearly got kicked out by the hospital because of that!”
“His biggest dream is to be able to study properly and have outstanding accomplishments. That way, he’ll be able to change his own fate. Almost everyone in the school came from poor families, but not many of them think like him.”
“But how can they learn in a chaotic school like this?” Lin Huai’s fists tightened and his eyes were turning red as he continued. “Should there just be generations of Yulan College students that end up becoming hooligans? Or should they just wait until they graduate and just idle around as each day passes?”
“Yulan College has such great teachers and resources but should the students just surrender their fate like that, generation after generation?”
“This is not up to God’s arrangements! These are just despicable actions of people who don’t even fear God, so of course they would not fear people!”
“Since nobody is going to care about it or question it, then I will.”
“It is for the sake of Yulan College, not just for Wei Qimian, Madam Wei who has passed away, but for the thousands of students studying in this school!”
“Even if it’s for myself, I will take matters into my own hands! Even if they were just mere students, or even if it will end up as a dangerous situation and cost my own life, I will still be willing to do it!”
“If I don’t even care about things like this, I am not worthy to be called Lin Huai! My name is Lin Huai [1] not because I want to be a bad person, but it was to remind myself that I must never become a bad person!”
[1] The word Huai means bad, or evilness. His name being Lin Huai would naturally make people wonder if he was named that because he was a bad person, but as explained by the character himself, it instead was to serve as a reminder for him to never become a bad person.
