Chapter 55 Starting to Flirt Again
The few of them returned to their classroom. Lin Huai whispered to Wei Qimian who was sitting next to him, “Any update on Dao Zi’s situation?”
“Well, he should be fine,” Wei Qimian said. “I reckon that he will be back in two or three days time.”
“Alright.” Lin Huai heaved a sigh of relief. He would require Dao Zi’s assistance if he were to really go up against the sports major. The hundreds of people from the sports major were not easy opponents.
Once the afternoon lesson was over, Lin Huai stopped everyone before they could leave and stood on the podium. He said, “It’s almost the end of the day, so why hasn’t anyone approached me to register their performance? Brothers and sisters, based on my good looks, as well as the fact that it’s my first day as the music class representative, could you all save me some face?”
Everyone burst into laughter. Well, it was certainly true that Lin Huai had good looks. Suddenly, a few young girls with blushing faces stepped forward and registered their performances. Some of them planned on singing, some on dancing. Lin Huai counted and realized that if he registered a performance himself as well, there would be a total of five performances.
Just as Lin Huai was about to bring the list over to Teacher Pu Yingxue, Wei Qimian suddenly stood up and said, “Register a performance for me as well. The performance will be a ballet dance called ‘Sleeping Beauty’.”
Lin Huai thought, Ah, she must be jealous because she saw that the other girls were so enthusiastic. Haha, I like where this is going.
Lin Huai immediately jotted down Wei Qimian’s dance performance. Then, he said, “That’s all for now, I will meet the teacher now. Mianmian, are you going to wait for me here or are you going back first?”
The only reason Lin Huai asked was because he had the responsibility of protecting Wei Qimian at all times in the college.
However, the rest of their classmates didn’t know that this was the case. Thus, Song Tingting started to kick up a fuss and jeered, “Oh my, can’t take being apart for only a few minutes? Why not have Mianmian wait for you in the classroom?”
Wei Qimian blushed and said, “Of course I am not going to wait. I will return to the dormitory now.”
“Alright then.” Lin Huai smiled and winked at Pu Chengji. Pu Chengji understood what Lin Huai meant and proceeded to look for Wu Mengjie and Wu Jun. Soon, they quietly followed behind Wei Qimian to protect her.
Upon entering the teacher’s office, he found that the office door was left open and Pu Yingxue was the only person inside. Pu Yingxue had her back to Lin Huai. She held a stave in her hands and was humming a tune.
Lin Huai approached Pu Yingxue from behind, listened for a while, and realized that Pu Yingxue had a good voice. With a little bit of good luck, she had the ability to be an actual singer in the entertainment industry. Of course, Lin Huai could identify some flaws in her singing. However, those flaws could only be picked up by experts. Anybody else who listened to her will think that her singing was perfect. Any flaws would have been concealed by her wonderful voice.
After she finished her song, Pu Yingxue murmured to herself, “Something still doesn’t feel right somewhere.”
Lin Huai suddenly spoke, “This song you sang is Ma Liang’s The Rest of My Life, right?”
Pu Yingxue suddenly heard someone behind her. She was startled and turned her head around. Upon seeing that it was Lin Huai, she patted her chest. She rolled her eyes at Lin Huai and groaned unhappily, “Why did you not announce your arrival?”
Pu Yingxue had a very sweet look. Even her eye-rolling gave people the impression that she was very cute.
Lin Huai smiled and said, “I am sorry for spooking you. I was too engrossed in your singing and subconsciously walked in without knocking the door.”
“Alright, I don’t blame you.” When she heard Lin Huai praise her singing, the simple Pu Yingxue didn’t make a fuss. However she was still a little gloomy and said, “But I keep feeling like I’m not singing something right.”
Lin Huai smiled and said, “Actually, the original singer of this song was a male singer, but it is suitable to be sung by females too. As a matter of fact, the standard of your singing just now is comparable to the quality of the original song. It is not a very difficult song. However, there is a problem when you sing, that is you are too focused on the tempo that you neglect to invest your emotions. But I am guessing that’s because you lack experience when it comes to relationships. Have you dated before?”
Pu Yingxue’s face flushed. She was embarrassed. “Nope, I have not.”
No wonder she felt embarrassed. Nowadays, a lot of lower secondary and upper secondary school students had dated before. There were not a lot of virgins left in the colleges. It was definitely rare that a female teacher in her twenties had good looks yet zero dating experience.
Lin Huai smiled and said, “Having no relationship experience is nothing odd. I am sure you would have watched dramas in your free time. You could extract the emotions and feelings from there to be projected onto yourself. That way, you can properly immerse yourself…”
“Yup,” Pu Yingxue said. Then, she asked, embarrassed, “But how do I immerse myself?”
“Even if you had no relationship experience, I am sure you have liked guys before, right? After all, while you were growing up and going through the puberty stage, you must have had feelings for certain guys. You could recall those emotions and immerse yourself. Then, sing this song.”
Pu Yingxue bowed her head and didn’t speak.
Lin Huai was stunned and asked, “Teacher Pu, are you okay?”
“I… I have not experienced that before.” Pu Yingxue briefly glanced at Lin Huai, and then didn’t make a noise.
Lin Huai was stunned. “You have never fallen for anyone before?”
“I have… but I am not sure if that was considered liking someone,” Pu Yingxue took a deep breath and murmured to herself. “According to reason it is impossible, completely impossible.”
Lin Huai asked, “Did you fall for a teacher during your schooling years?”
Pu Yingxue blushed and shook her head. Then, she said, “Stop asking. I will stop singing for now. Give me the list to take a look.”
“Oh, okay.” Lin Huai handed the program list and name list over to Pu Yingxue. Pu Yingxue took a look, then asked, “Where’s yours? There are a total of five performances on the list but I don’t see your name.”
Lin Huai thought about it and said, “Then I shall sing the song that you were singing just now.”
“The Rest of My Life? Sure.”
Lin Huai grinned at once.
With some emotion, Pu Yingxue said, “Are you trying to prove that you can sing the song better than I can?”
“No, no. I am a guy and you are a girl. What we each sing are different versions and cannot be compared.”
“Hmmph.” Pu Yingxue looked exactly like an innocent and simple-minded young girl. If she was not a teacher, Lin Huai would not have been able to control himself from teasing and flirting with her.
Pu Yingxue said, “From now on, you shall be the representative of my class. Our music class representative is usually not busy, however, it just so happened that your appointment coincided with the annual gala. That’s why we would be a bit busier during this time. Our night classes are more casual and attendance is optional. All you have to do is bring the people on the namelist to the gymnasium for rehearsal everyday. I have already applied for it. From now on, we have the gymnasium booked for every night.”
“Alright, good,” Lin Huai smiled and said. “What time do we start and end everyday?”
“Well… classes end at five in the evening. Have dinner and take a short rest first, then come over at seven thirty for rehearsal. We will rehearse all the way till nine thirty before heading back to the dormitory to wash up and sleep.”
Lin Huai smiled and said, “That doesn’t include weekends, right?”
“Hehe, of course the weekends should be spent having ample rest and revising your homework. Forget about the weekends. Gosh, stop frowning and worrying. There is only half a month left till the annual gala. Once the annual gala is over, there will be nothing much for you to do anymore as the music class representative. After all, music is just an elective subject. As
computer science major students, computer science would be your major subject, along with other subjects like Maths, Physics, Chemistry, English, and Chinese Language.”
In a serious voice, Lin Huai said, “Actually, teacher… I have always thought that music classes are very important, and the same could be of art classes and sports. Since these subjects exist, they must have their importance. Isn’t the country now advocating for a holistic development as well? Musical development would cultivate the students’ moral behaviour and emotional character.”
Pu Yingxue’s eyes brightened up and she gazed at Lin Huai. She said, “I realized that you are very different from everybody else.”
Lin Huai smiled and said, “Is that so? Is it because I am more handsome?”
Pu Yingxue chuckled and said, “I just love listening to you speak. Move a stool over and let’s have a chat.”
“Oh? Are we not going to have dinner at the canteen?”
Pu Yingxue smiled and said, “There is no rush. I know of an exceptionally delicious hotpot shop outside the college. Let me treat you to some hotpot. What do you think? Do you consider hotpot to be too cheap?”
“Not cheap, not cheap. Teacher, let me tell you that in any city, the best foods are not found in glamorous restaurants that serve luxurious meat. Instead, they are always hidden in small shops located at unnoticed corners. Only some locals would know about these places and outsiders would have difficulty finding them.”
Pu Yingxue’s eyes flickered with surprise. “You really don’t behave like an ordinary student. Your experience and thinking are much more mature than the others.”
“Like I said, teacher, you are biased toward good looking people. Just because I am handsome, you think that everything about me is good.”
Pu Yingxue chuckled and said, “Let’s talk about music instead.”
The both of them started chatting. Lin Huai had a better understanding of music than Pu Yingxue did. However, at the end of the day, Pu Yingxue was a music teacher. Therefore, in certain areas, she had understandings that Lin Huai could benefit from. As they chatted, the both of them really clicked and felt like long lost siblings, regretting that they had not met sooner. During the chat, Pu Chengji sent Lin Huai a message. He informed Lin Huai that Wei Qimian had finished her dinner at the canteen and had safely returned to her dormitory.
Lin Huai increasingly admired Pu Chengji’s capabilities. He had quick thinking and was also quick on his feet.
The sky had turned dark. Lin Huai and Pu Yingxue chatted as they walked off the college campus. Lin Huai followed Pu Yingxue and they walked for about twenty minutes before arriving at an alley where there was a hotpot stall. Although it was a secluded area, the business was rather good. There were many cars parked outside the alley, all probably there to eat at this shop.
Lin Huai was shocked and said, “If you did not bring me here, I would not have been able to locate this place.”
“Yes, this place is rather secluded. I also bumped into this place by accident. However, the business here is very good and many of the customers are regulars. Thus, at the end of the day, it is crucial to treat customers wholeheartedly.”
“Treating people wholeheartedly is equally important.” Lin Huai glanced at Pu Yingxue. “Just like you. You have been treating the students wholeheartedly. That is why they sincerely love you.”
Pu Yingxue enjoyed listening to all of these. Then, she responded and asked, “They sincerely love me? Does that include you?”
“From the bottom of my heart, I really like you.” Lin Huai could not help himself from flirting with her.
