Chapter 48 Twin red pole of the Sports Major!
Lin Huai asked, “Did this Wu Shanhe learn martial arts from a young age?”
“I have no idea but I do know that his Kung Fu is awesome. He dominated the business major when he was only a freshman and recruited a lot of henchmen. His party is second only to Zhou Minghu’s party.
Lin Huai said, “Tell me more about Zhou Minghu.”
Wang Hongwei showed respect at the mention of Gao Mengchao and Wu Shanhe. However, he could not help but tremble in fear when he mentioned Zhou Minghu’s name. His face also paled and this surprised Lin Huai. Zhou Minghu was not even here in person. His name alone was enough to instill this much fear in Wang Hongwei? Zhou Minghu must be a very scary person!
Wang Hongwei gulped and hesitated for a while before whispering, “When I just enrolled in college, I saw Zhou Minghu chop someone’s finger off.”
Lin Huai’s gaze turned solemn. This was a college compound and this person was a student. This ruthless and merciless action was even more cruel than a typical gangster outside of school.
Lin Huai asked, “Then what happened next? That was the end of the story? His family did not call the police?”
Wang Hongwei shook his head. “What I saw was that Zhou Minghu chopped off that person’s pinkie and let him go. He even threatened the person that he could go back and tell his parents, and if they contacted the police, and even if Zhou Minghu was arrested by the police, he would still order his men to chop off that person’s remaining nine fingers.”
Ruthless, merciless, and meticulous in his thoughts. It was hard to imagine that Zhou Minghu was only a college gang leader!
No wonder Wang Hongwei was this spooked. People like Zhou Minghu were no different from the actual gangsters.
Lin Huai asked, “Then how did you come across this scene?”
“I was just passing by.”
Lin Huai was speechless and could only smile bitterly. “I don’t know whether to say you were lucky or unlucky. It’s like you would bump into every random thing. Zhou Minghu let you go just like that, even after you witnessed what happened?”
“Yup. Zhou Minghu only briefly glanced at me, I don’t know why, but he just gave me a casual sweeping glance. Even then, I could not stand properly. I kneeled on the ground and later thought that it was rather embarrassing. But after I heard that he was Zhou Minghu, I felt much better. Zhou Minghu’s reputation precedes him, so I was kneeling to the actual emperor of Yulan College, and that was not embarrassing after all.”
Lin Huai flashed a bitter smile and said, “Got scared into kneeling down, and yet you think it was not embarrassing? Let me tell you, once you start following me, no matter who you face, you are not allowed to kneel. Do you understand?”
“I understand,” Wang Hongwei said awkwardly. “Actually, I didn’t want to kneel back then, but I lost control over my legs.”
Lin Huai did not sneer at Wang Hongwei. He too knew that people like that existed—those that could terrify you with one glance. In fact, Dao Zi could potentially reach this level in the future. The fact that Zhou Minghu had already attained such heights made him a little scary.
Of course, such people might not necessarily be skilled at Kung Fu. They might be exceptional in other ways.
Lin Huai asked, “How much do you know about Zhou Minghu?”
Lin Huai’s interest toward Zhou Minghu had risen to another level. Although Gao Mengchao was powerful and had a few hundred followers, it was not enough to make Lin Huai fearful. Although Wu Shanhe was a Kung Fu master and was considered the strongest ace of Yulan College, it was merely because he had not met Lin Huai yet. If Wu Shanhe faced off Lin Huai, the title of Number One Ace would likely change hands. As for Zhou Minghu, Lin Huai had zero understanding about him. The only thing Lin Huai knew was that Zhou Minghu’s single glance was enough to scare Wang Hongwei onto his knees.
Wang Hongwei said, “Zhou Minghu has five red poles under him.”
Lin Huai whistled and smiled, saying, “Five red poles? Is he not worried about choking to death? Are there even that many powerful people in this college? Or can any random person call themself a red pole.”
Wang Hongwei self-deprecated, saying, “Either way, I think each and every one of them are way more powerful than I am.”
“Obviously. Most people are much more powerful than you. However, you can train slowly. I will help you out so that you will not get bullied in the future. Alright, continue telling me about him.”
“Okay. The four tigers of Yulan College are his red poles. They are: ‘intelligent tiger’, Zhang Hongdi; ‘furious tiger’, Li Guangzhi; “cane tiger’, Pan Haifeng; and ‘obscene tiger’, Chen Gang.”
Lin Huai said, “I have come into contact with Zhang Hongdi before. He did not reveal his emotions easily and was a cunning person. As for the others, I have no idea who they are. By the looks of it, Zhang Hongdi is probably not that good at fighting. Instead, he sways toward the characteristics of a white paper fan. Within a gang, the white paper fan is responsible for coming up with strategies and ideas, the red pole is responsible for charging and fighting, whereas the straw sandal is responsible for social interactions.”
“I am not sure about that.”
“It’s okay, you don’t have to. It’s better to stay away from such things and never ever get involved with gangsters. Otherwise, it would be difficult to turn your life back around,” Lin Huai exhorted him. Then, he asked, “But didn’t you say he had five red poles? Why were there only four Yulan tigers, and not five tigers?”
“That’s because the other red poles don’t belong on the same level as them but above them.”
Lin Huai was shocked, saying, “The twin red pole?”
A twin red pole was the strongest fighter, chosen from the existing red poles. This meant that he was essentially the number one red pole. Usual gangs don’t have twin red poles as no red pole would willingly admit that they are not as good as the twin red pole. Thus, it was no easy feat to get all the red poles to willingly submit to the twin red pole’s whims and fancies.
Unexpectedly, Wang Hongwei nodded his head. “Yes, he is the twin red pole.”
Lin Huai exclaimed, “Looks like this guy is probably rather powerful.”
“Yup, his name is Li Kandao.”
Lin Huai was curious and asked, “Li Kandao? Can it be that he uses a knife as well?”
“Yup, I’ve also heard that he is very powerful.”
“I see. Now I am even more curious as to who is stronger—him or Dao Zi. I am curious about both him and Zhou Minghu. Oh right, didn’t you say the sports major was afraid of Zhang Chunlei because of Dao Zi? Would it be that Dao Zi was more powerful?” Lin Huai smirked.
“Nobody knows. Even though Dao Zi has been in college for a long while and is a sophomore, he used to be a lone wolf who focused on his studies. Nobody messed around with him because nobody dared to. This semester, the sports major seemed like they wanted to oppress Zhang Chunlei. A few days after school reopened, Dao Zi suddenly became a follower of Zhang Chunlei. From then on, the sports major no longer dared to act rashly.” Wang Hongwei continued his explanation. “Not only that, Li Kandao got himself into trouble again during the holidays. Thus, he is still locked up even though school has reopened. Therefore, nobody from the sports major has the confidence to claim that they can confidently defeat Dao Zi.”
Lin Huai asked, “Oh, what did he do? Was it a serious crime? Is he in prison?”
“I don’t think it was to that extent. I heard that he got into a fight over a prostitute. He beat the person up but both parties were considered guilty as they laid hands on each other. Therefore, it was not that serious. At most, he would be charged with the double felony of prostitution and fighting. So, he would probably remain locked up for another few days and should be released soon.”
Wang Hongwei talked as he monitored Lin Huai’s expression. To his surprise, Lin Huai laughed. Wang Hongwei was confused and he asked, “Brother Huai, now that you have defeated Big Lei and became a force to be reckoned with in college, isn’t it a good thing that Li Kandao is locked up? This is especially the case if you wish to be the gang leader of the entire Yulan College. Why do you seem so happy to hear that he is going to be released soon?”
Lin Huai was shocked. “Who said that I wanted to become the gang leader of Yulan College?”
“Then… you…erm… I guess it’s good enough being the gang leader of the computer science major. Zhou Minghu is not someone that we should be messing with.”
Lin Huai smiled. “I have no intention of becoming the gang leader of the computer science major. However, I would have to mess with Zhou Minghu someday in the future. As for Li Kandao, it’s a good thing that he is going to be released. Such an interesting opponent, how could I not be excited to meet him?”
Lin Huai saw Wang Hongwei’s confused look and he knew that Wang Hongwei would not understand. So, he did not bother explaining. Instead, he smiled and said, “Okay, have a good rest. I will make a move for now.”
“Brother Huai, the money…”
“No rush.” Lin Huai waved his hand and left.
Once Lin Huai got out of the hospital, his face turned solemn. Looks like I will have to eventually face off Zhou Minghu, but not to fight him for the position of gang leader. Lin Huai was only supposed to be on the mission for two months anyway. Thus, there was no way he would remain in Yulan College forever. Therefore, what was the point of taking over the gang leader position? Even if it was not for Madam Wei—who had passed away—but for his own conscience, Lin Huai could not turn a blind eye to the evil deeds that remained in the college.
They had the guts to transport and sell drugs! Even if they were students, they deserve to die for this!
Lin Huai walked out of the hospital and thought seriously about it. He thought of an idea that might help him resolve this incident much faster, and he did not even have to take action. For example, he could ask Wei Sihai to expel Zhou Minghu and the others. Lin Huai had no words for Wei Sihai. Even his daughter knew that Madam Wei entrusted her dying wish into building this college. Yet, how could he, as the husband, not pay more attention to things happening within the college.
Lin Huai really could not understand. If Wei Sihai had spent more effort and time managing the college, how would the college end up being so messed up? If he had fired and punished the administration staff that did not perform well, things would have changed. Ultimately, it went back to the root cause—that Wei Sihai let things slide and did not care about the college!
Right away, Lin Huai gave Wei Sihai a call. The phone rang for a couple of seconds and Wei Sihai picked up. His voice was calm and as polite as per usual. “Hello, Mr Lin.”
“Hello,” said Lin Huai while suppressing his anger. “Do you have any idea what Yulan College looks like now?”
“I heard some things… however, I really have no choice. Also, I heard about what happened to you over the past two days. Mianmian called me and requested that I settle this problem.”
“This is not the matter that I am referring to,” Lin Huai said solemnly. “There are students inside of Yulan College who are working with gangsters outside the school to transport drugs!”
“What?” Wei Sihai was surprised and his voice sounded a little peculiar.
