Chapter 24 Nobody Can Stop my Revenge!
Lin Huai’s head was humming. His heart was consumed by nothingness. How could Wang Hongwei—who was drinking with him only a moment ago—be beaten to death just like that?
Lin Huai thought of their last meal together and vividly remembered Wang Hongwei’s tears as he talked about his parents’ broken relationship. He talked about the wall he built around himself. His speech was emotional and the desperate desire to change his family’s situation was palpable.
And he died before fulfilling his wish?
The faces of his dormitory mates were as pale as paper. Although they rarely interacted with Wang Hongwei, the fact remained that he had been their roommate for the past one month. Of course they were affected. They were drinking and hanging out only a moment ago, and now he was gone within the blink of an eye. How could they accept this?
Lin Huai was the first to leave the room and the rest soon followed suit. All of them rushed madly in the direction of the sound. They kept running until they reached the entrance of the corridor where a crowd of students were already gathered. A motionless Wang Hongwei lay sprawled on the ground. His forehead had been smashed by a heavy object and the entire floor was covered with fresh blood.
The onlookers had looks of panic on their pale faces.
Lin Huai squatted down to check Wang Hongwei’s breathing. His gaze when he lifted his head was terrifying. He bellowed angrily, “F*ck you all. Who said Wang Hongwei was beaten to death?”
Lin Huai heaved a sigh of relief. However, thinking of the fright he suffered, his anger started to boil again.
Although Wang Hongwei was gravely injured, he was still breathing. He was not dead, merely fainted. However, Lin Huai was still shaken by the voice just now.
Standing amongst the students was a demure looking guy trembling from head to toe. He answered with a quivering voice, “I… I saw that he wasn’t moving anymore, and there was so much blood…”
Lin Huai sighed and glanced fiercely at the guy. Forget it, there is no point in screaming at him. He was probably just frightened. The most important thing right now is to save Wang Hongwei.
Lin Huai took off his shirt and applied pressure to the wound. At the same time, he instructed the nearby students, “Fan Hanning, you dial 120. Wu Jun and Wu Mengjie, run to the infirmary and get a medical professional, Erythromycin ointment, and some gauze. Don’t panic. Although his wound is deep, it won’t cost him his life. It’s the large amount of blood he lost that caused him to temporarily lose consciousness.”
Lin Huai had calmed down. He looked like he was coordinating a trivial matter and not a life or death situation. His steady voice immediately calmed the crowd down.
Wu Jun and Wu Mengjie acknowledged and sprinted toward the door.
While exerting pressure on the wound, Lin Huai said, “In a moment when the equipment arrives, I will stop the bleeding first. Then, the doctor will take him to the hospital for stitches. Too bad we are not properly equipped, or else I would have stitched him up myself.”
Everybody thought Lin Huai was only comforting them. They did not know that Lin Huai was stating the truth. In terms of medical expertise, Lin Huai was on par with—or even surpassed—the attending physicians of a big hospital.
Lin Huai turned his gaze toward the guy who shouted. He asked, “Were you the first one to arrive at the scene?”
“Ye…Yes.” The guy stammered and trembled with fear.
Lin Huai lowered his voice and said, “Thank you. It wasn’t my intention to scream at you. If it wasn’t for your timely discovery, he may have been dead. If I may ask, was he in this condition when you found him? Do you know who did this?”
“No…” The guy immediately shook his head.
Lin Huai’s gaze was compelling. He asked, “Then, how did you know that he was beaten up?”
“I don’t know. He may have fallen from the second floor…”
“Second floor?” Lin Huai lowered his voice. “We don’t know each other. Therefore, you have no reason to provide me with any clues. However, you must have heard of my character. No matter who, those that offend me do not end up in good shape.”
“You can’t bite the hand that fed you!” The guy was close to tears, his voice shaking.
The onlookers thought Lin Huai was overboard, but no one dared to make a sound. If even Zhang Chunlei did not mess with Lin Huai, how could they compare?
Eventually, Lin Huai decided not to make things difficult for the guy. Although Lin Huai thought the guy was lying, the guy was right. If Lin Huai followed through with his threats, it would be akin to biting the hand that fed him. After all, if it weren’t for this guy, Wang Hongwei might have lost a huge amount of blood. Even if he did not die, his condition would be critical.
Not long after, Wu Jun and Wu Mengjie returned. Wu Mengjie wiped his sweat and said, “The infirmary’s door was locked and I had to pry the door open. Only then did I search for the staff, hence the delay.”
Lin Huai took the equipment. First, he disinfected them. Then, he used the bandage on Wang Hongwei. His movements were skillful. Upon seeing this, the watching students heaved a sigh of relief.
Before Lin Huai could finish, a brawny-looking guy in his thirties rushed over from outside the dormitory. When he saw the scene before him, his face was livid with rage. He bellowed, “What is this? What happened here?”
Wu Mengjie lowered his voice and reminded everyone, “This is Feng Jingnan, the supervisor of our computer science dormitory. Usually, he does not interfere with our lives, but when issues arise, he deals with them with top notch tactics. Therefore, do not ever provoke him.”
Everybody except Lin Huai who was a newcomer knew who Feng Jingnan was. Therefore, the information was meant for Lin Huai.
Upon seeing Feng Jingnan, Lin Huai kept bandaging as he retorted coldly, “I am bandaging Wang Hongwei’s wounds. Please shut your mouth.”
The entire corridor froze in silence. Everybody was shocked. Even Zhang Chunlei had shown Feng Jingnan some respect. How dare Lin Huai speak to Feng Jingnan in this manner?
Feng Jingnan was shocked as well. Then, he seethed with rage. He reached out a large hand to grab Lin Huai’s neck and roared, “You f*cking brat, you dare ask me to shut up?”
Lin Huai suddenly raised his head and pierced Feng Jingnan with his cold gaze. Feng Jingnan’s hand stopped midair, as Lin Huai calmly said, “Brother Feng, I am bandaging Wang Hongwei. If he loses too much blood, I am afraid that his life will be in danger. You do not want to be implicated, do you?”
Feng Jingnan wilted under Lin Huai’s gaze. He took advantage of the situation and retracted his hand. He replied coldly, “Then hurry up and get it done. What happened here?”
The last sentence was directed at the crowd.
Fan Hanning groveled to Feng Jingnan and said, “Brother Feng, we were drinking in the dormitory. Wang Hongwei had too much to drink so he went to the toilet, but he did not return after that. Then, this guy here was screaming about Wang Hongwei having a mishap. When we came out, Wang Hongwei was already lying on the ground unconscious.”
Fan Hanning was a smart person. He intentionally omitted the fact that Lin Huai was also present with Wang Hongwei at the toilet. This was to protect Lin Huai from unwanted suspicion.
Feng Jingnan knitted his eyebrows together and scolded, “If you can’t drink, then don’t f*cking drink. Next time, whoever drinks in this dormitory shall clean the toilets for a month! From the looks of it, this lad fell from the stairs. But aren’t you guys on the ground floor? Why in the world did he go to the first floor?”
Lin Huai finished bandaging Wang Hongwei. He stood up and looked Feng Jingnan in the eye. “Brother Feng, according to my observations, his wounds were not caused by a fall, but blunt force trauma. Of course, there were some bruises on his body. I think the bruises were caused by the fall down the stairs, thereby further aggravating his injuries.”
“What do you mean by blunt force trauma?” asked Feng Jingnan. “You mean he was beaten up and kicked down the stairs?”
“Yes,” answered Lin Huai. “However, it was probably not caused by kicking as there are no footprints on his body. However, we can be certain that he was hit on the head by a blunt object before rolling down the stairs.”
Feng Jingnan’s face turned dark. “Who did this?”
“I am not sure,” said Lin Huai. “But before we proceed, I have to seek out a person.”
Feng Jingnan asked, “Who?”
Lin Huai replied, “Brother Feng, could you ask all the students on the ground floor to come out?”
“F*ck, all of you on the ground floor, come out now! Whoever stays in their room, I will kick you to death!”
Just then, all the doors on the ground floor flew open and students streamed out one by one. Feng Jingnan pointed at them and yelled, “All of you stand on either side of the corridor.”
Lin Huai walked toward them. Then, he looked them over one by one like a military inspector. Those who suffered Lin Huai’s penetrating gaze lowered their heads. After a round of inspection, Lin Huai shook his head. “The perpetrator is not on the first floor. He is probably on the second floor.”
Feng Jingnan scrunched his forehead and asked, “What do you mean?”
Lin Huai said, “I was with Wang Hongwei and we were peeing in the toilet. He may have revealed some secrets back then, but before he could finish his sentence, he bumped into somebody. That somebody followed him out. I am certain that at this moment, only that person had the opportunity and the motive to commit the crime.”
Feng Jingnan got the gist of it. Even if there were more than three people in the toilet, none of them came out of the stall. At the very least, this proved that they did not have the opportunity to commit the crime. Apart from that, those who did not overhear the conversation had no motive. Hence, the only person with both motive and opportunity was the person whom Wang Hongwei bumped into at the toilet.
Lin Huai said, “Since the culprit is not on the ground floor, let me take a look at the first floor.”
Feng Jingnan hesitated. “I am afraid that will be inconvenient.”
Lin Huai asked, “Are you worried about upsetting Big Lei?”
Feng Jingnan’s face changed. In actual fact, he was thinking of another issue. Zhang Chunlei was most likely the culprit behind this. Even though he did not know the actual sequence of events, nor how Wang Hongwei managed to offend anyone, if the culprit was a second year student, then it was unlikely that Zhang Chunlei was innocent.
Zhang Chunlei was not a person to be trifled with in the computer science major department. If the culprit was actually him, this could get difficult. He might as well try to minimize the issue and eventually sweep it under the carpet.
Feng Jingnan took a deep breath and murmured, “I think it will be best if we don’t touch the second floor. Let me tell you this, all the students on the second floor are the underlings of Big Lei. He will not allow anybody to touch his men. Even if you manage to get there, you won’t be able to leave easily.”
Lin Huai shook his head. He walked toward the staircase and said, “Nobody can stop me from taking my revenge if you touch my brother!”
