My older sister used to leave the forest once a month to visit a remote village at the forest outskirts. She went there to get books and other daily necessities from monster hunters or peddlers.
There was a limit to what she could bring, but traveling through the forest was dangerous. I couldn’t go with her. This was why the books in our house were all torn and tattered.
“Asking for a magician would be easier. A book on magic is too difficult to get. So how could I possibly get my hands on one. But why do you want one?”
“Ah, your curse?”
“Yes. As you said, this is a phenomenon that cannot be explained by anything but magic.”
The Knox at night seemed to still doubt that he changes into a child during the day. But he looked like he was beginning to believe my words. He brooded over it so seriously, making me feel depressed as well.
The male lead’s curse would be lifted when he meets Serena, but…
I pitied him. He couldn’t do anything about it immediately. I mean he only wakes up at night, doesn’t have his memories and is stuck in his room. I could only feel sorry for him.
I can’t do much to help you.
“A wizard probably lives in the abandoned house, Amy. Don’t you think that’s fascinating?”
My sister’s words flashed across my mind.
“Ah!”
I clapped my hands in realization, causing Knox to look at me.
“What’s wrong?”
“Ah, Knox! I… may have found a way to get some books on magic.”
“From where?”
“I think I know a way. I’ll let you know after I confirm it.”
If I was right, and get my hands on the books on magic wouldn’t my problems go away. Even if I hadn’t lifted the curse.
Overjoyed, I grabbed Knox’s hands and swayed them around like how my sister would.
“If I managed to find a way, you should thank me. Alright? Don’t just stare.”
As I happily chattered away, Knox just stopped blinking. His expression was a little strange. Why are you just staring at me? It’s scary.
Only when I shook my hands in front of his eyes and spoke to him did he respond. He then slowly blinked his eyes. It was as if he forgot how to blink.
“Knox?”
“Huh? Oh.”
To show he understood, he nodded slowly. The strange expression from a while ago disappeared just as it came. Making me wonder whether I had seen it wrong.

“The abandoned house? It belongs to a wizard.”
When I asked the next day, my sister answered without hesitation. My sister, who liked to talk, explained cheerfully. She was excited that a topic she could talk about came up.
“Amy, I think I already told you this before. Hmm, or maybe not? Anyways, it may be the house where I collect my herbs from, but it does belong to a wizard. There were magic formulas, magical trunks and books on magic that were strewn everywhere.”
“You most probably did. Knox, you look like a nobleman.”
“…A nobleman?”
“Yes, handsome and well-mannered. It’s as if you could become a great man when you grow up, don’t you think? Anyways, that’s just what I think.”1
I mean, whatever I said was the truth.
Propping my chin with my arms on the table, I stared at those large purple eyes that blinked back at me. He might be following around me like a baby duckling following his mother, but one day he’ll leave for Serena. Won’t he?
“One day, Knox will go back to his real home.”
“…My real home?”
“Yup, the one where your real family is.”
Knox’s father was already dead and his mother’s mentality was unstable. She had not yet emerged from the North Tower. The thought of his family’s background made me bitter.
The male lead might not have a family, but he has his knights. Wouldn’t they be like a family to him? Even if they were looking for him relentlessly, we would not know.
“…”
I heard the chair scraping the floor.
Knox dashed over and grabbed my skirt tightly.
“…Don’t like it?”
“What?”
“I don’t like it.”
When the little boy raised his head to look at me, I froze unknowingly. I couldn’t think of anything to say to him. At that moment, Knox hugged me stubbornly.
Instead of an answer, I gave him a perplexed smile.
“Knox, do you want some candy? Ah… We still have the cookies that Diana made. I’ll go bring it here.”
As I lifted Knox and placed him on one of the chairs to run to the kitchen, my heart remained conflicted. I think I overstepped my boundaries by bringing up the topic of a home to Knox who was still sensitive. I felt apologetic to him.
Although I was afraid of adult Knox and chose my words carefully, it didn’t mean I wanted to hurt him. Because he was someone who had been hurt many times before.
I have to feed him some tasty food. Bitterly murmuring, as I opened the cupboard.
Clang.
A piercing sound rang in my ears as I grabbed the cupboard door. Immediately, I ran to Knox’s side.
“Knox!”
Knox was sitting in front of the table, deadly pale, holding a broken cup. I quickly grabbed Knox’s hands.
“Are you okay? Where did you get hurt?”
Knox’s gaze alternated between me and the broken cup. His face was white as a sheet. I felt his shaking hands in mine.
“…Amy.”
“Wait, you’re bleeding! I need to apply pressure. No, maybe a bandage?”
Pieces of glass were stuck to his hands. I immediately got up to find some herbs, but Knox grabbed me with trembling hands before I could leave.
His eyes slowly looked towards me.
“I’m not sure. I don’t have any memories so I don’t know but it feels familiar.”
It feels familiar?
