“Uh, yes. Then in the afternoon, we have a class on common knowledge.”
“Common knowledge?”
“My older sister thought that you didn’t talk, because you didn’t know how to.”
Knox wrinkled his forehead.
Well it was quite dark in the room so I couldn’t see him wrinkling his forehead. But I could tell that he didn’t look very happy.
” “
“Uhm, because we talk about many other things. While I teach you basic words.”
“What kind of things?”
“Like fairy tales… Well, you liked fairy tales with dragons in it. Ah, right. You specifically said that you wanted to defeat a red dragon.”
The sight of your cheeks dyed red, as you talked excitedly about defeating a red dragon, was cute. Honestly, you were more of a handful than my sister.
“Then?” “Huh? Oh, we read fairy tales and sometimes my sister would sing. I can’t tell whether it’s because my sister was tone-deaf, but you would sing horribly.”
Maybe, I was being too honest. Because it was getting harder to breathe under Knox’s fierce gaze.
If I wasn’t wrong, his gaze has gotten fiercer since before I started talking.
“A-anyways, I’m right, right?”
“…”
I gave him a look that seemed to say ‘You don’t even remember, do you’.
“No, I don’t remember.”
He then quickly masked his fierce gaze and turned his head. What should I do if I was scared? I pretended to be unaware of his staring.
…I guess it was a good thing to keep the fact that he wore a bib, ate tomatoes with a kiddie fork and threw a tantrum while eating because he hated cucumbers a secret from him.
“I’m sure of it now… I don’t have any memory of the day.”
Knox said slowly, as he scanned my face.
“When I opened my eyes, it was night again. If this happens again, maybe whatever you said was the truth. But for now, nothing can be certain.”
In the novel, Knox always sought for rational reason in a cold calculative manner. Hence, he was sometimes criticised for being heartless for his indifference for sacrificing his allies.
Maybe that was why he could still keep his calm even after losing his memories. If I were him, I would’ve just been confused and at a loss for what to do.
“When you found me, what kind of state was I in? Was I seriously injured or in a state of shock?”
“Uhm, no. You weren’t seriously injured. But you did have a minor scratch…”
Subtly, I gave Knox a proposition that he couldn’t refuse. He had no choice but to accept it because he couldn’t beat me. No, I think he already knows. He released my fingers that he was grabbing indifferently.
“…Certainly, it’s not an offer I can refuse.”
Just as he said that, I could feel him scanning my face.
“Knox?”
“…Knox.”
Knox copied my murmur with another murmur. The words that were uttered by this enchantingly beautiful person sounded like they were passages from the sacred bible. Soon after, he grabbed my hands.1
Even though his grip wasn’t very hard, I froze as if I had been hypnotised by him.
“Okay. I may not completely believe you but we can do that.”
“…”
“That’s okay, right?”
“Yes? Uh-wait what?”
Seeing me backing up in surprise, I saw the corners of his lips rising.
“So, we are sharing one room.”2
I found it hard to reply to his words.
…. What should I do? He managed to notice while I was talking to my sister? He must be a quick thinker seeing as he noticed despite my sister’s misunderstanding. Or is it weirder if he didn’t get it even after hearing our conversation?
“Then cover your eyes.”
“I’d hate that!”
I said it was uncomfortable, but I never said I hated it? When I’m really determined, I can become a determined woman.1
“…”
