“Is there any way we can knock them out easily?”
I looked at the gllyluses and asked hesitatingly.
“Gllyluses… They may look intimidating but they are not very strong monsters. Can you see it? There should be a red gemstone on its forehead. Can you aim at it whenever you swing your sword?”
“Well, I’ll have to try.”
It was at that moment. One of the gllylus flew at us threateningly but was cut down with the swing of Knox’s sword and fell to the ground. Although I couldn’t dare to look at the monster’s dead body lying on the ground, I was horrified enough just looking at the red gemstone that had been cleanly cut.
… Does he really not remember anything?
Even though he managed to cut one down, his expression didn’t look good.
“I don’t think that was enough.”
“Huh? Aren’t you fighting well?”
“That’s not the problem. Our noise is attracting more here.”
Right after he spoke, grotesque sounds that resembled screams reverberated throughout the forest. Cries of gllyluses echoed from all around us—in front us, our sides and even behind us. When I realised what was happening… shivers ran down my spine.
“It sounds like they aren’t that close yet. Which way do we go?”
“D-d you see that white cloth? It’s that way. I think we’ll make it if we run for another 5 minutes.”
“Then, hold on tight.”
“Huh?”
Once he held me, he bolted. It was definitely much faster than us running one after the other. Fortunately, there weren’t any gllyluses in the direction we were heading towards.
Instead, dozens of gllyluses were chasing us down.
Even I could tell even though I was being carried by someone.
“Knox, Knox, turn right here.”
“Got it.”
Knox, who didn’t seem like he was breathing, ran like a wolf. To prevent myself from falling, I clung onto the hems of his clothes. In front of me, amidst the thicket of the forest, I could see the abandoned house which looked a lot like the house my sister and I were living in.
But since we didn’t know where the ‘safety zone’ began, it was too dangerous to stop running. Looking around, I noticed a thorn tree amongst the trees before looking at Knox.
“Knox, can you circle around the tree at your 11 o’clock direction and make a U-turn?”
“What?”
“It’s okay. It’s not dangerous. It’ll only take a while.”
Knox dashed quickly towards the tree and circled it, like a racing car drifting on a sharp curve. I, on the other hand, quickly hung my bag over one of the thorns and pulled, causing my stuffed bag to explode.
When I opened the door, a wave of dust bloomed across the floor.
My sister would sometimes talk about how a wizard could cast magic onto his house to make it bigger or distort its space but it didn’t seem like any magic was casted here.
“There’s a lot of dust here.”
“It looks as if no one has been living here for a while.”
“Yes. I think it’s been at least 8 years since this house has been occupied? Ever since my sister found this place, it has always been empty.”
Kyeeeek.
Hearing the goosebump-inducing screeches, I grabbed onto Knox’s clothes.
“…Uhm, do you know if you have any ability that could attract monsters?”
